sdw12 UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 24th Apr '07 16:00 (GMT) | | Kiss/ Hotter than Hell Hi Carolyn Thanks for your question. As far as KISS recordings go Japan, is by far the most frustrating and confusing of all the foreign markets. The band were not in fact very popular in Japan in the early 70s. This is a popular misconception thanks to the writing on the back of Hotter Than Hell. The album wasn't actually issued in Japan until August 1976 after Destroyer, Dressed To Kill and KISS. The US version was issued in October 1974 and therefore a lot of the photos etc will date as 1974.
Here are the vinyl release dates and cat no.s for all Japanese Hotter Than Hell issues.
Casablanca/Victor VIP-6340 (Japan, 1976) Casablanca/Polystar 22S-2 (Japan, 1980) Polystar R00C-2012 (Japan, 1984)
Hope this helps a little. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to contact me direct.

 | | Alive IV Could have been so so good!! I'm not a fan of the rock/symphony thing fortunately KISS seem to have pulled off one of the more credible efforts to combine the two. David Campbell [Beck's daddy] does an admirable job of the orchestral arrangements and they actually lend themselves to some of the early tunes like 'King of the Night Time world' and 'Great Expectations' really well. If only Eric Singer had been on the drums instead of Peter Criss the whole thing would have sounded a lot meatier.
