rmoncur Newcastle UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 29th May '07 22:10 (GMT)The Beatles - Please Please Me Mono I have come accross a copy of this album PMC 1202. The album itself is in excellent condition - there appears to be no scratches to the naked eye. I can't play it as I have no turntable! The sleve is not so good. It appears to have bee re taped along the bottom edge and the top edge has come away. It is discoloured but is printed and made by Ernest J Day & Co. The record label is black with Parlophone in yellow. It states (XEX.421) recording first published in 1963. Can anyone give me an idea of its value and if better to sell privately or through a dealer? [reply to this topic ]

vterry Reading, Berkshire UNITED KINGDOM Created Sun 22nd Apr '07 21:30 (GMT)RUBBER SOUL I own probably one of the rarest later mis-presses in The Beatles vinyl catalogue. Rubber Soul 1999 pressing, PCS 3075, with label error, pressed on APPLE label. It is in pristine unplayed virgin mint condition. The Record Collector Rare Record Price Guide 2008 purports to value it at £125, which is total rubbish, it is worth considerably more. I would be glad to hear from anyone who would like to estimate a true market value, including those wonderful EIL.COM people.[reply to this topic ]

I have an orignal copy of "Tutti per uno" on the Parlophone label. I have been told it should be worth more as the composes on the sleeve and album label is listed as McCartney/Lennon? Yasuhiko Yashiki - Japanese Office Not Green Amber, Not Meopham JAPAN Created Mon 26th Feb '07 12:09 (GMT)The Bealtles - Within You Without You Japanese Promotional O Hello from Japanese Office I have been asked if I have a willingness to buy a copy of "The Bealtles - Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows Japanese Promotional Only CD Single" from my contacts. I am still thinking if I should accept this offer or not as it is not a cheap deal. My supplier says that it is mega rare and never been sold / auctioned at Japanese site so far.The reason why it is so rare is : 1) Toshiba EMI (Jap record label) didn't press this CD very much as it was indicated that the lead track from "Love" album for air-playing should be "Strawberry Fields Forever" from EMI UK and this CD was not used for air-playing (instead,4 track sampler from Love album [UK pressing] was imported and sent to several radio stations in Japan.Toshiba has only given this CD to seriously sellected DJ & journalists that's why it has not been sold / auctioned so far. 2) It is the only CD single from "Love" album all around the world so far (as far as I know.....I think EMI UK doesn't even know this existence and will not be happy if they know this) The sleeve artwork is same as Love album (yellow coloured one) and titled "Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows".The back of foresleeve is informed the release of Love album with track listings in Japanese. This is factory pressed CD and catalogue number is PCD-3275. I just wondered if anyone in this community is interested in buying this item if eil.com stocks this item for sale - I expect our price will be 450 - 595UKP. Please give me your feedback and it will be greatly helped my decision. Thank you very much in advance [reply to this topic ]
Richard M UNITED KINGDOM Created Thu 22nd Feb '07 16:51 (GMT)Review: Bear in mind that the review comes from a Beatles fan with a bizarre sense of humour but this quirky collection of "Noughties" Swedish Beatles covers is fun- if you like the songs in the first place. It's good becuse it's weird. Who else would try this kind of thing but the Swedes? [Brazilians, Canadians, Argentinians, Americans, Liverpudlians...] "The Space Cakes" have turned out a moody version of "Love Me Do", which sounds as if "Shocking Blue" provided the guitar parts, "Booker T and the MGs" the organ, "The Boomtown Rats" the vocals and "The La's" the percussion. "Nice", as Louie Balfour would have said. "The Ravengers" handle "Things We Said Today" quite well. At least, unlike some other tribute artists, they were actually able to manage the changes. [There aren't exactly a lot of chords in it, are there?] Gentler and dreamier than the original, it's probably good to dance to, as well. "Inbetweendays" are the love children of "Alice Cooper" and "The Kinks". I appreciate what they were trying to do but perhaps John Lennon's Dylan parody, "You've got to hide your love away" was not the best song for them. Easy to listen to and bound to appeal to young North American rockers. "The Dilemas" started out thinking that they were contributing to a "Stones" tribute album but quickly realised the mistake and cobbled together an insensitive version of "Wait" which has been influenced by the Doors and Dr Hook. OK but the intricate timing of the original has been lost under all the twanging, fuzzing, show-off organ solos and tambourine-shaking. There's a short drum solo, which is clearly a nod in the direction of "The End" [Beatles, not Doors]. "Sharp Kiddie" sound a bit like "Procul Harum". I'm not a massive fan of early prog rock but this version of "If I needed somone" does sound like a 'Sixties record. The acoustic set-up is very good. Well done, chaps! "Taxman" by "Skainsmate" sounds like a Swedish version, produced within the last couple of years. Strange that! Heavily influenced by the original [i.e. nothing new added] but also reminiscent of "The B-52s" and "REM". Like, wo, enough of the drums, already, man. "The Persuaders" have a sound not unlike late 1970s groups, such as EL&P. Interesting but again "Tomorrow Never Knows", in which sounds effects and unusual techniques played such a crucial part, was an inappropriate choice of song for this group. "Sgt Pepper" conta...[reply to this topic ]

Richard M UNITED KINGDOM Created Thu 22nd Feb '07 15:44 (GMT)Review 5 out of 10. First disc pleasant enough but the second was pretty dreadful. The standard of musicianship was high but there was just no feeling to any of the performances. The recording was crystal clear but lacked any warmth or depth. It was as if computers had produced the whole thing. The choice of material didn't help. It's better for Beatles tribute artists to concentrate on the rock 'n' roll (and country 'n' western) numbers. Soul and psychedelia sound reidiculous, unless played with some verve. If you want a fun Beatles tribute album from Germany, look out for "The Beatles Revival Band", now available on CD. They used the right instruments, made the right sound [more like the Beatles live but better!] but sang in the "wrong" language! It's all very clever, though, and the end result is enjoyable, even if your German is a little rusty. It's a good excuse to get your phrase books out.[reply to this topic ]
